An elderly martial arts expert named Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) teaches high school student Daniel (Ralph Macchio) to defend himself from bullies. In Part 2, released in 1986, Daniel accompanies his mentor to Miyagi's childhood home in Okinawa. Miyagi visits his dying father and confronts his old rival, while Daniel falls in love and inadvertently makes a new rival of his own.
